ART FORM IN GENERAL:
An embroidery is an art form that is intricately detailed on fabrics. It is composed of patterns, textures, and shapes. A piece of cloth is embellished with colored threads weaved together to form an admirable design.
THE STORY WEAVED BY THREADS:
Naushin is an embroidery enthusiast who loves designing every possible thing on a piece of cloth. The particular designs presented here are conceptualized and then executed. They break the stereotypes and spread the kind word related to mental health and body positivity. Eyeing these pieces we realize that a piece of cloth has the power to invoke awareness. Naushin shares that belonging to an orthodox family, she has encountered women being suppressed by men of the house and are made to behave as per their willingness. We are familiar with the fact that society has set its own beauty standards and all of us are expected to adhere to them. This prejudice bothered Naushin for quite some time and she raised her concern through her art; we believe there’s nothing more beautiful than that. She conveys that don’t fall for the images portrayed on tv or commercials and don’t look at yourself through society’s spectacles. Naushin firmly believes that being YOU is being beautiful. Her artwork is testimony to the matter that accepting your body the way it is; is the highest form of self-love and it is necessary for your mental well being too.
A WHIRLWIND OF THOUGHTS:
Before embroidering anything on the cloth, Naushin looks for concepts to portray through her art. She starts by brainstorming a topic, thinking of alternatives, and then researching. According to her, it takes days of researching at times to add the required kernel to the art form. After extracting the sources and understanding the subject matter in-depth, she starts sketching and finally adorning it with embroidery. The final output is always splendid and detailed.
ABOUT NAUSHIN:
Naushin Kaippally is a textile designer graduated from NIFT. She is a professor by profession and simultaneously also runs her own retail brand of handcrafted apparel. But in between all of this, she is immensely passionate about hand embroidery and she makes it a point to design new patterns and concepts every now and then. She always adored handmade items over machine-made and from that her interest in embroidery grew.
TO ALL THE NEWBIES:
Here’s a bit of advice coming from the skilled artist herself to all the newbies and aspirants. She instructs everyone to keep their work original. She further adds that you don’t need to know everything. Having expertise in a few can also generate fantastic output. Lastly, she asks everyone to do the creatives for themselves and not for anyone else or social media. If you enjoy creating your art, there’s no stopping you.
