Rohini Singh,an opinionated and powerful Journalist whose aim is to churn out Truth and let the voices be heard.Rohini is a true example of a strong women who has ventured beyond the leaps and bounds of this stereotypical society. His dedication for work has made her set a benchmark in the field and is working hard everyday to attain what she aspires. Since she was young she had eminent interest in Politics and issues related to it. She was always analysing and questioning everything. She had a clear mind as to what she wanted to do in life and was building her path to success. Being a Journalist has always stayed in her conscience and she was more than willing to grab the opportunity as it comes.
She counts herself lucky to get a good break In the field and after that Rohini has been unstoppable. She has been in the field for 10-12 years now and it was a rocky road. Dating back 10 years she remembers at that time women weren’t taken seriously in the field and were given softer beats to cover. Hurdles are compartively more for females but the path made her learn a lot. Her first Stint as a business journalist was in CNBC. Later she went to USA for sometime and came back to India and joined Economic Times. She just feels she was at the right place at the right time.
She shares one of her experience here which clearly displays how women are taken lightly and are not given much of an opportunity to shine bright.
Once, at Economic Times in 2009 Rohini was covering a big corporate story. It was a deal between Sunil Bharti with a huge
Telecommunication company in Africa. The word was out and it was a big merger. But unfortunately due to some unavoidable reasons the merger couldn’t happen and Rohini recieved this information from a credible bureaucrat. She also had the proofs on record but her voice wasn’t heard because of the fact that she was a women. The paper didn’t run her story. But she followed up and found more concrete sources to support her statements and later the company had to look into. And it turned out that Rohini was totally accurate. Later she was celebrated and from then on her stature in the field levelled up.
It was surely a struggle for initial years as male dominated society did not accept an opinionated and confident women. It was hard to convince the officials to accept but change came with time.Rohini aims for big stories always and for that she has to rigourously research to bring out the truth. She verifies each and every fact before putting any word out. She also covered big stories like the 2G Scam and Robert Vadra case as well. She strongly believes that there is no greater power than money. If you are financially independent, nothing or no one can stop quotes Rohini Singh. She further adds that your financial freedom helps you value yourself. She always had a knack for writing and had good communication skills and was firm about her opinion so Being a journalist is the best choice she made. She keeps her work and family bay away. She feels that connecting both would lead to stressful situation and she doesn’t see the need of doing it. She works religiously and at home she is the best mother she can ever be. She is thankful for her supportive family because without them she won’t have able to achieve such peaks.
Rohini is really assertive about her thoughts and opinions and that’s why she presses emphasis on voicing out our opinions. She comments that we will be discouraged either ways then why not put forward our point. She adds that if you feel strongly about something then there’s nothing that can stop you. Even if you face counter arguments then think upon it as well. Because as we grow and learn things we change our stand and our personality equally. She believes that every voice matters and backlash shouldn’t stop you.
Now as we take a walk into Rohini’s day we realise that she does various things. She attends almost 2 meetings, does her part of researching, works on ongoing projects, has nice coffee and cooks also because she loves it. Her day is sometimes stressful but according to her it is worth it.
To distress herself she spends a lot of time with kids, hangs out with her friends and Visits spa to relieve her muscular as well as mental stress.
There’s this poem by Faiz Ahmed Faiz to which she swears by. It goes like,
“Jis Haqq sey koi maqtal me gaya,
Jaan Salaamat rehti hai,
Yeh jaan toh jaan hi hai,
Jaan ki koi baat nahi”
It basically imparts the lesson to live your life with courage, dignity and self respect.
And our Strong Journalist, Rohini Singh is offering complete justice to the quote.
