Raised in the hands of a professional singer, Dhara Shah adapted many of her dad’s musical skills at a very young age. Success can only be achieved through hard work, dedication, no matterwhere you’re born, and Dhara Prabhudas Shah is the living example. She maintained the respect for her dreams from childhood; this is the outcome of great singing.
Her father and eldest sister both are very well-known singers. The father-daughter duo was viral and used to perform in plenty of shows. Dhara drew inspiration from them. She grew up listening to old songs of Asha Bhosle etc.
Her primary teacher was her father, who helped her from the start. She explains how her father was the one who made her realize that the only way she can achieve success and popularity is through her hard work. She won’t be given everything from the start, and that she has to achieve it. Hence, she provides a whole lot of credit for her success to her father.
She started singing and performing by the age of 9-10 years. Dhara’s schooling was done in her hometown itself in a Gujrati girl’s medium school. After 12th, she went to Ahmedabad to pursue B.com in the English medium college under Gujarat university, which at first was very difficult. Still, she never gave up and ended up participating in the western singing competition in the youth festival of her university, where she secured 2nd position.
Moving from a Gujrati medium school to the English medium college but still expressing herself through music was when she realized how vital music was. She decided to make singing her profession
After her college years, she wanted to continue performing; however, she wasn’t earning enough to sustain herself. Therefore she joined a school as a music teacher. Dhara’s journey from working 6 am to 12 noon at the school and then traveling to Surat to perform. Later coming back and getting just 2 hours of sleep to continue the same routine the next day. She struggled every day to make her dream come true.
After two years of this hectic journey, she finally left her job to pursue her dream full time after getting her official classical music training from a music college in Vadodara. She started her journey to success.
She made her first YouTube video in the year 2012. She knew nothing about monetization or business. All that she wanted to do was to spread her songs to as many people she could. She believes that every artist has the responsibility and opportunity to spread awareness about different issues. Hence if you visit her YouTube channel, you’d see her channel divided into different sections, and every video tries to convey a message to you.
However, when she first started, she wasn’t able to gain popularity instantly. She explains that it was because the spread of social media was minimal during that time. But time has changed, and she has gained a considerable platform for herself. People like the content that she posts with the message in it.
For Dhara, Music runs in her. Music is something she feels peace at, especially Old Music, she doesn’t want the youth of today to forget about old songs. It’s been 10-12 years since her first album released, but her faith in music and love for music hasn’t changed a bit.
She still longs to create music, share it with others, and perform music for other people and herself. Dhara Prabhudas’s journey reminds us to follow our dreams no matter what comes in between. It reminds us to work hard to achieve them because there will be a time when we will succeed at the end of the day.
