Gurpreet grew up in Bangalore and went to boarding school in Ooty. As a child, she was fascinated by Bollywood movies and dreamt of becoming an actress when she grew up. She grew up in a Punjabi family that was quite conservative, and therefore, she could not become an actress. As a child, she also loved painting and art.

In school, she was a captain and participated in multiple activities. In college, Gurpreet thrived and participated in many extra-curricular activities like dance and was even featured in Bombay Times. She got popular doing nail art when she was in college. She was passionate about art and always followed her passion.

Career

Gurpreet’s career as a makeup artist started quite casually. Cory Walia had done her wedding makeup, and she got talking with Walia about makeup because it intrigued her. Upon Walia’s suggestion, she did a makeup course. It has been seven and a half years since then, and Gurpreet has a successful career as a makeup artist. She thanks God and believes that it is God’s grace that she has a thriving and successful career.

Gurpreet believes that everyone is good at something, and she does not necessarily view her fellow makeup artists as her rivals. Everyone has a niche, she believes, and there is space for everyone to thrive and grow. Gurpreet is humble even though she has received widespread recognition and many awards for her work. One of her most memorable awards was given to her by beauty guru Shehnaz Hussain. Another award she is proud of receiving was handed to her by Zeenat Aman.

She particularly loves working at weddings and feels happy making a bride feel beautiful. She is a person who loves connecting with people and feels like weddings are her niche. She also loves traveling and doing shoots with celebrities. She maintains a beautiful balance between her professional life and family life. She is a mother of adorable twins. One being a handsome boy and another being a beautiful girl. She always gives them sufficient time, even when she works.

Ethos

Makeup is very personal to everyone, and Gurpreet understands that. She always takes her client’s preferences into account and doesn’t believe in completely changing the way someone looks. She wants her clients to feel like themselves but more beautiful and confident. Talking about the products she uses, brands like Colorbar, HUDA Beauty, L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, Dior, Sephora, Bobby brown , Fenti beauty , Mac , Krylon , Morphe , Christian Dior , Guerlian, Gucci etc., are her go-to. She has sensitive skin herself, and therefore, is careful about using only the best products in her work.

Gurpreet recently came on Netflix.

Advice to readers

Gurpreet’s advice to people is never to lose hope and always continue working for whatever they are passionate about. She feels that what others say should not matter as long as one tries to do things the right way. Doing good always comes back, and she stands by that belief.

Lockdown experience

Talking about her lockdown experience, Gurpreet says that the pandemic has taught her to value people around her more. Gurpreet feels that she gets affected by all the things happening in the world at present, as she is an emotional and sensitive person, and this is something many people can relate to. She feels thankful for everything she has and even teaches her children to do the same. Her advice to aspiring makeup artists is to pursue the niche they like and to take it easy.
