Born in Delhi- ‘Dilwaalon ka Seher’- and brought up in the Mumbai-‘The City of Dreams’-Sanjana Sharma is known for creating a path of her own in the realm of Belly Dancing. Coming from middle-class family background, she faced hardships like any other girl in India, but she had a unique vision for herself right from childhood. Sanjana strongly states that her pillars-of-strength are her mother, father, and childhood best friend, now boyfriend. From a tomboy to a belly dance sensation, Sanjana has surely come a long way.
Her mother, the family’s anchor, helped Sanjana reach great heights by providing unconditional support and love. However, it was the journey of her boyfriend that taught her the true meaning of living life with happiness. She is a perfect example of the saying, ‘when the going gets tough, the tough get going.’ Apart from financial hardships, her top-most battle was with people with a preset notion that belly dancing isn’t for everyone. From body shaming to time management, she has overcome every hurdle that came her way with a smiling face. Sanjana indeed has the free spirit of a go-getter who never backs down from a fight.
In a country where people are still more inclined towards mainstream jobs, Sanjana carved herself a niche in the world of her passion. A student learning under different teachers’ tutelage to a belly dance trainer Sanjana has been on both sides of the table. Today, she is training doctors, scientists, engineers to make the world groove with amazing belly moves. However, there was a time in her life that she couldn’t do what she loves for at least 3 months. She states that it was the most challenging time of all as she experienced severe depression. This devastated her soul, confidence, and thinking ability. Sanjana is a born dancer; with music in her soul and rhythm in her spirit. Her mantra for a fulfilling life is learning from failures. She seeks criticism instead of false praises. For her, consistency, commitment, and experience mean everything. She thrives on becoming a better version of herself, in life as well as in thoughts. Sanjana believes in putting her heart and soul into whatever she does. After completing her MBA degree, she took up Belly Dancing as a full-time career.
Her passion for this dance form originated when she was in 12th standard. Since then, she has given every ounce of blood, sweat, and tear to reach where she is today. From taking professional classes to representing India in Egypt, Sanjana has gained experience beyond her imagination.
Performing on stage, evolving, and dressing up are the truest form of happiness for Sanjana. She believes belly dancing is a therapy for the soul when mastered with the right techniques.
