Pradeep Das, famously known as ‘thebombay_doodler’ has made his way to becoming famous on Instagram for his Doodle art. The story behind this man is nothing but inspiring for aspiring artists.

Pradeep found himself writing poetry and making art on Instagram by the name “The Void Word Hipster.” After completing his BSc IT, he landed himself with a job in Wipro, later to quit his job to explore the world by travelling. On his journey to discover himself, he found art as a significant part of the places he visited, and he realised that drawing “black and white” is something he wanted to pursue diligently. He took inspiration from Mandala and made one for himself.

One fine day, while cleaning his wardrobe, he found his school notebooks where his pages were filled with creative work such as poems and doodles; which is when it hit him that he was made for art, and should pursue it more seriously. Art was inscribed in him since childhood, and it kept calling him at different stages in his life.Having sketched cartoons since childhood, he landed a project in Navi Mumbai, when a person approached Pradeep to design a café with a ‘Mario Miranda’ theme. He spent hours working at a shipping company, and would run back to complete this project. He thoroughly enjoyed working at both places, but it took a massive toll on his health.

At 6 thousand followers, he decided to quit art and pursue his job seriously to contribute his income to the family. But art found its way back to him, and he started taking projects to design acclaimed choreographer Melvin Louis’s studio, he stopped playing around with his calling and decided to take up art and doodling as a career. During this phase, his followers grew leaps and bounds on social media, and ‘The Void Word Hipster’ became ‘thebombay_doodler’.

He recalls his struggles frequently and ensures that his own struggles inspire him to work harder and impact people’s lives. When the pandemic started, he lost his job as many did in this country, but the fire named art kept burning under his belly.

Art and Doodling came to Pradeep naturally. He had a flair for it since his childhood. He started engaging himself with art at every corner in his life. “No one says follow your passion if something doesn’t work out. They will always push you to do other odd jobs.,” he reminds himself of his decision to pursue his passion as his career.

He leaves us with some words by an anonymous writer, whose words keep inspiring him every time he feels low.
